Ten years ago I received my Yoga Teacher Training Certificate and began my journey of guiding others into their Authenticity.I was struggling then, trying to sort out my life and ending a relationship that I valued for so long in hopes of reconnecting to whom I needed to be for this world.Figuring things out can be so difficult, yet the rewards are just so remarkable. I never planned on becoming a school, but I did, because of the request of one particular student. Over and over she sent emails and called to nudge me into my truth. So I took the leap and for 9 years now I have been teaching others how to teach Yoga.We began in an old bank vault downtown on Fayetteville St before Fayetteville St exploded with businesses. You can see image below. Not many people understood the ideas behind yoga, other than images of pretzel people. LOL. Back then a student, now another Yoga studio owner, used to pass out flyers promoting yoga and she would receive such odd comments and funny faces whenever she tried to engage in Yoga talk with strangers.Yoga has become such an influential movement these days and we are honored and proud to be offering not just Yoga but other healing modalities such as Massage Therapy, Thai Yoga Stretching, Craniosacral Therapy, and Reiki, Bach Flower Essences, Aromatherapy, Skin Cleansings, and Herbs. It is like a sweet one stop shop for Healing and Self Preservation. So we have lots coming up from celebrating 10 years with our Student Appreciation Event, to supporting our local artists Ellen Williamson & Joyce Barbour to Karma Nature Clean-Up.In the meantime, we want to thank you for being part of our intimate community of peaceful Yoga Practitioners that take their Yoga off the mat and into the world. And if you don't think Yoga is for you, then I encourage you to come check us out and see that it truly is for everybody! You can check out what fellow student Heather has to say about her experience here at Raleigh NC Yoga.Namaste y Maktub.~ ClaudiaNever forget your Truth!

Come & meet Sully FernGully, our new addition. Natural Therapy Doggie at 8 months young and just pure love.

Student Reflection of the Month by Heather A.

I took one or two yoga classes many years before finding Raleigh NC Yoga. Unfortunately, my experiences were not great; I didn't feel welcome or that I was valued in a large class in an almost clinical setting. I have a laughing spirit and was made to feel that lightheartedness was unacceptable.Anyone who pays attention knows that yoga is not a fad, that it works wonders for people's health and well-being, and that anyone can do it. I had a desire to get into it, but I just hadn't found the right fit until last spring. My experience at Raleigh NC Yoga has been life-changing. First, the studio is everything that one could want it to be: it's surrounded by beautiful trees (which means fluttery leaves and chirping birds), there are no mirrors inside, dappled sunlight streams through the windows, it smells great, the wood furniture inside makes it feel warm and homey, the colors are soothing...it's like a yoga womb in the middle of Raleigh. Second, I felt welcome from the minute I arrived for my first class. Neither Claudia nor any of the other wonderful teachers or students has ever made me feel like a burden due to my disabilities. Because of their patient guidance, I am improving in so many ways. I am never sorry that I took the time to attend a class; even if I'm exhausted, cranky, hungry, and lazy, I always, without fail, feel so much better after a class.I was diagnosed with MS, a chronic, debilitating, incurable (as of today) neurological disease, about 13 years ago. After a few pretty good years, my foot dropped, my leg and arm muscles weakened, and a list of other physical challenges presented. I began to use a cane, then a walker, now a scooter for traveling more than a few yards. The more difficult it became to move, the less I moved. I didn't see the point of fighting an incurable disease. Claudia helped me to understand that re-establishing lost connections is possible and that changed my whole outlook. When I started, I would return home to regale my husband with tales of all that I couldn't do in class. After a while, I adopted a growth mindset (something I try to instill in my high school students) which forced me to be kinder to myself. Now, I understand that there are sometimes things that all of us could do yesterday that are a challenge today. I don't talk negatively to myself anymore about things I can't do, I make mental notes about things that are challenging today or about things that I don't have the hang of just yet.My newest goal is to complete a short hike through the mountains of NC to see a waterfall. I can't do that today, but because of all the guidance I've received at Raleigh NC Yoga, I will do it.
